Age related macular degeneration or AMD results in loss of central vision. Smoking and family history are known risk factors. Patients with early signs typically do not suffer any noticeable vision loss. Most patients with early findings during an eye exam are encouraged to take multivitamins as well as follow their vision using an amsler grid. Complete exams should be performed every 6-9 months in order to monitor any changes. Our eye doctors will be able to treat and manage patients with AMD at both Skokie and Highland Park office locations.

The vitamins are based on the AREDS 2 study which showed patients who took a specific vitamin supplement displayed slower progression of their existing macular degeneration.
